A proper conversation about your care

More than another look at a scan.

A scan is one part of the picture. Your appointment brings together the advice you have already received, an examination, and what your symptoms mean for everyday life.

Understand the recommendation
Talk through the diagnosis, why a particular treatment was suggested, and the questions that still feel unanswered.
Discuss the choices
Ask about the benefits, limitations and risks of the options relevant to you, including what waiting or continuing your current plan might mean.
Take away a written summary
You receive a record of the opinion to keep and consider. With your consent, it can also be shared with your GP.

£400 for 45 minutes. Includes a MAI Motion scan at either clinic. Additional imaging and treatment, if recommended, are separate.

Experience you can check

Your consultation.
With Professor Paul Lee.

An opportunity to discuss your concerns directly with a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, review your existing scans and reports, and understand the reasoning behind your options.

Professor Lee’s practice spans knee and hip replacement, revision surgery, sports injuries and joint preservation. That breadth matters when your question is whether to proceed with surgery, consider another approach, or better understand an existing plan.

The consultation starts with your concerns: what you have been told, what has already been tried, and what you hope to get back to doing. A different answer is not assumed in advance.

The decision stays with you

A clearer way forward.
At your own pace.

Sometimes a second opinion confirms that your existing plan makes sense. Sometimes it opens up another discussion, or identifies information that is needed before a decision can be made.

You can take the written opinion back to your current team, consider further care with Professor Lee, or discuss a referral to another specialist. Having a consultation does not commit you to treatment here.

What is a second opinion?

A second opinion is an independent review of your diagnosis or the treatment you have been offered, given by a doctor who was not involved in your original care. It is a normal, everyday part of medicine. The General Medical Council expects doctors to respect a patient’s right to seek one.

Do I need a referral from my GP or consultant?

No. You can book directly. You do not need permission from your current team, though bringing your records and scans makes the appointment far more useful.

Will this affect my current care or my place on a waiting list?

No. A private second opinion sits alongside your existing care. You keep your NHS referral, your place on any waiting list and your relationship with your own team unless you choose to change it.

What happens on the day?

The appointment is 45 minutes, face to face. Professor Lee takes your history, reviews any imaging and reports you bring, and carries out a clinical examination before discussing what he sees. A MAI Motion scan is included at both clinics.
